Hi there,
I thought I'd take a minute to share some of the few misconceptions people tend to have about Equine-Assisted Therapy:
1. It's just for kids.
Yes, while we do see children in our counseling practice, the majority of our clients are adults. The issues they deal with can be trauma, anxiety, depression, family and marital issues and couples issues.
2. We teach horse back riding lessons.
There is no riding in Equine-Assisted therapy we use ground work with the horses.
3. We don't do regular counseling
Yes, we can use the horses and we have an office and a porch to sit and talk.
4. We just brush horses and talk.
Yes, we do brush the horses. We also work on the relationship/connection with the horse because it closely mimics that of human relationships.
5. I have to know about horses to come to Equine-Assisted Therapy.
No previous horse knowledge is required. This is not horsemanship. This is lifemanship.
I'm sure I could think of more, but those are the main ones.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Have a great day!
Julie
